The possibility of engine fires due to issues with overheating have forced Ford Motor Co. to issue a recall. Ford’s recall includes the 2013 model of 15,833 Fusion sedans and roughly 73,325 Escapes. Drivers of these models report warning messages including “Engine over temp, stop safely,” and “Engine Power Reduced to Lower Temps,” being displayed on their dashes.
This most recent recall is yet another, of what may soon be considered consistent, setback for new vehicle launches by Ford. The Escape 2013 model alone was previously recalled for pedal interfering carpeting, fuel and coolant leaks.
The recall will specifically include Escape SE and SEL models, as well as Fusion SE and SEL models with 1.6-liter engine. These vehicles were both built and sold in the U.S. and Canada, and 2013 Escape and Fusion models with alternate engines are not affected by the recall at this point.
Ford encourages any customers operating the above models to contact their local Ford dealer who will provide replacement transportation free of charge. Although repair procedures are not yet available, Ford will notify customers as soon as possible to schedule dealer service appointments. For more information:
